Modern Spoons in a repurposed 60s precinct building. Quite nicely done inside, with the cow mural behind the bar being a highlight. Choice of areas, the cooler darker bar or the baking conservatory. Only one guest beer, a rugby themed one I swerved in favour of a fair Abbot (NBSS 3) served-up by an indolent youth. Whether this one turns a decent profit felt debatable, it wasn't that busy at Saturday lunchtime and one guest cask gives you an indicator that this is more a Tesco Express of the JDW estate.

The Glass Maker is an original pub albeit rather modern so it doesn't rreally resemble a typical one. It's been well described below but the bar area includes a drop down screen supposedly for "special events" like a single person asking to see final score when nobody else seemed bothered. Nevertheless I found a table and chair on the edge of this area.
Although there are two sets of five hand pumps the beer choice was poor. One set was devoted to cider which in any case was in a chill cabinet and most I recognised from the July Festival nearly two months earlier. The other set had two available soon, Hobgoblin Gold, Doom Bore and Hook Norton Old Hooky. I went for the Old Hooky (£1.99) which was not clear but tasted reasonable. After that I gave up and went for the Black Dragon Cider (£2.75).
I thought this was an unimpressive Spoons.

Recently purchased by Wetherspoon’s and re-opened as The Glassmaker, it’s been much extended and renovated after a reported £1.3 million refurbishment. The name of the pub is reflected in much of the interior decoration, and there are various notices on the walls outlining Nailsea’s glass making history, as well as a poster chronicling a short history of The Wurzel’s Adge Cutler.

It’s effectively divided in to two halves with a large, open wooden bookcase dividing the two parts. To the left is the glass topped bar counter and a seating area with plenty of tables and chairs. A mosaic tile pattern behind the bar spells out the pub’s name. To the right is a light and airy room with large windows, patio doors and a glass atrium. The paintwork is a darkish shade of green with dark wood tiles on the lower part of the walls. Vertical sections between the windows are covered in a mixture of orange, brown and red glazed tiles, and this strip of tiles continues on across the ceiling. A circular column in the centre of the room is covered in tiny, dark, glazed tiles, and this also has a couple of inset bookshelves. Outside is a patio area with a selection of brightly coloured furniture as well as some low circular walls with old bottles laid in to them. The bottle theme continues inside with a lampshade made out of hanging wine bottles.

Beers on tap were Otter Ale, Butcombe Bitter, Butcombe’s Adam Henson’s Rare Breed, Abbot Ale, Pitchfork, Ruddles County and Gem. Ciders were Strongbow, Stowford Press and Thatcher’s Gold.
