Blackthorn _ left this review about The Langford Inn

A traditional looking stone built pub in this small village, despite being just off the A38 it must get little in the way of any passing trade. They have capitalised on their proximity to the airport by building some accommodation blocks at the rear and many of the diners appeared to be business people on a recent mid-week evening visit. A patio area was at the rear with a rusty old barbeque and there is a further beer garden at the front.

Internally it is somewhat larger than you might expect with a number of different rooms including a couple of bars, a couple of dining areas and a snug. Décor wise it’s fairly traditional with black beams on much of the ceiling as well as some black timber supporting posts and a few jugs, horse brasses and such like hanging from them, although somehow it didn’t have quite the cosy ambience that some country inns do. The front bar had limited seating with some chunky pine tables and some stained glass in to the porch. A plasma screen was stuck up in the corner but this was not in use on our visit. The snug had a good sized fire-place with a wood burning stove, but from a quick glance I thought that this looked to be decorative rather than functional. Wood cladding on the lower part of the walls had been painted duck egg blue and there was also fawn and pale green paintwork elsewhere, as well as some exposed stone walling at the rear. Some old plates had been set in to the plasterwork which I thought looked a little odd, and there were various generic country scenes on the wall.

The food menu offered an extensive selection of dishes to cover most tastes with the main courses mostly being somewhere around the £10 - £12 mark. There was also an extensive specials board with another 15 – 20 options, which rather suggests that they’re not that special, but just bought in like everything else I would have thought. My Fisherman’s Pie was certainly a generous portion, but it was rather dry with plenty of potato topping and very little of the advertised cheese sauce. It was accompanied by a selection of very bland vegetables, and at £12.55 I thought it was rather overpriced.

Beers on tap were a fairly uninspiring Brains SA, Rev James and Butcombe, although all the beer mats pinned to the wall behind the bar suggested that they do perhaps on occasions have a more interesting choice. The solitary cider meanwhile was Thatcher’s Gold.
