A pleasant and welcoming roadside pub whose interior layout is much as described below. The smaller left hand bar had a real fire going and had a good convivial atmosphere, while the larger dining area felt empty and was colder. Only one ale on,alongside two empty handpumps. The ale served was Butcombe Original, and it was on good form. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the locals were a reasonable bunch and I’d be happy to drop in again when passing.

This pub has had a refurb since my last visit and the character especially in the left hand bar side of the pub has been lost as my previous 2 Saturday afternoons visits a couple of years had seen a very local feeling with some banter and local characters.

Very much food orientated now. Pleasant enough decor wise with 6 hand pumps that saw 3 different beers on as due to the pumps location on the bar clips are each directed to the bar or lounge side.

A traditional stone built pub on a country road a couple of miles outside Bath. It’s certainly changed a bit since I was last in here, but to be fair that was a good few years ago.

There are two bars, one either side of the front door, as well as a decent sized beer garden adjacent to the car park. To the left is a smallish room with three or four wooden tables, exposed stone walls and an old fireplace. The bar to the right is somewhat bigger, and has plastered walls in two-tone paint, cream and gastro-pub brown. The floors are all reclaimed boards, and the upright, plain wooden chairs remind me of dining chairs which perhaps give it the impression of a pub more geared up for food. However, I’m not sure this is actually the case; although most of the tables had menus on, they were not laid for food in any other way, and there were a few punters in there who were just having a drink. There was a small LCD TV in one corner, but this was not on when we visited. Another old fireplace was at the back of the room, and a couple of pictures adorned the walls along with a stuffed bird of some sort in a glass case. The tables all had a vase of fresh carnations, and there were even some twigs in a vase. :-)

The menu looked to be a decent enough “pub grub” affair, with a short selection of dishes such as pie of the day, scampi & chips, etc. and whilst we didn’t eat, and thus can’t comment in too much detail, first impressions were that it was perhaps a bit pricey – most of the dishes were around the £10 mark - even the Ham, Egg & Chips was £10.50. There were also a couple of chalkboards on the wall listing a few specials and the pudding selection.

The solitary beer on offer was Doom Bar, although there were another three pumps on the bar that appeared to have run out – these were Best, Deuchars IPA and Butcombe. The ciders were Blackthorn and Taunton Traditional.
