Prices have been ramped up to fund the recent renovation. Quinno is right about the sound level and some of the locals. It's not actually a Barras pub anymore - Spirit have made it a bit of a standalone with a three year old Chef & Brewer Menu. Might improve when Greene King are allowed to take over Spirit. No discount deals like there used to be on food & beer when the football's on

Firstly, it's not thatched. Secondly, the exterior signage makes a lot of claims about craft and cask ales but only a pedestrian set of Pride, Doom Bar and Courage Best were on and just the usual keg suspects in addition. The Pride was at least in decent form. Mrs Quinno had her coffee delivered to the table, so good bar service. U-shaped interior, looks like a few quid has been spent here recently - posh sofas and pretty tiled areas. Island bar hosted an attractive black and white tiled bar back. Small, nicely done beer garden. Busy, although a large portion of the clientele were incredibly loud and annoying mockneys, with background music also cranked-up a notch too far. Couldn’t make my mind up on this one – there’s a good pub here that isn’t quite working. Wasn’t surprised to subsequently discover this is a John Barras house.
