A lively estate pub with one big L-shaped room and an outdoor terrace. It has a pool table and two dartboards one side, and a slightly raised area in the corner. The decor and furnishing could do with a refresh but the locals seemed happy enough. Refreshingly it keeps a couple of ales on - seems to be Doom bar plus one or two guests, on this visit Bath Gem with 6X and TEA to follow and condition was good. A fine selection of pump clips were on display, plus some CAMRA local mags, which is usually a good sign. I can't say I'd make a special trip but it's ok if you find yourself in the area.

Under the ownership of the small, family-run Oak Taverns group (they own the noted Cross Keys in Thame, Oxfordshire). This differs from their small portfolio as this is their only estate pub. Already described below, this is accessed up a small flight of concrete steps and has a chunky L-shaped interior with similarly-shaped bar facing the entrance. There's a raised area in the far right-hand corner of the room (to your right on entry) which had a couple of tables and chairs as well as a battered leather sofa. The left of the room was bare-boarded with a pool table centre-stage and seating of various heights completed the rest of the decor along with a wall-mounted juke box and a couple of quiz/gambling machines. Two large screens dominated each end of the L; one tuned into Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday. A terrace, mentioned in previous reviews is accessed via a door to the right. This has made the GBG of late and various pump clips adorned the bar including some locals Loddon and West Berks. Four pumps were on offering Sharp's Doom Bar, Brain's Rev James, West Berks Good Old Boy and Rebellion Roasted Nuts. Disappointingly, the latter two weren't available ("they're settling" the barlady told me) but she offered me tasters of the Doom Bar and Rev James which was a surprise, so I plumped for a pint of the RJ which was in decent enough shape and £3.90 for a pint's worth. Not overly busy inside or out on what was a clement day, a group of occasionally sweary middle-aged men were sat in the middle of the room, holding court but seemed harmless enough. Good, but not great and my timing seemed bad based on the beer situation, albeit I'd say an estate pub with four real ales on (and not all nationals) is definitely one to make a revisit to if in the area again.

We were in Bracknell to buy some floor tiles for the bathroom. What better excuse to try a new pub!
As has been said before, the Cannie Man is situated next to a local supermarket on a housing estate. It doesn't look particularly inviting. But I knew it was in the Good Beer Guide. So, it was worth a try.
The interior is as you'd expect. It's large and open-plan, with nothing particular to shout about. An outdoor terrace was nice enough on a sunny day.
The ale choice was a little too mainstream for my liking - Sharp's Doom Bar, Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter & Otter Ale. The exception was Rebellion Smuggler. None of the ales had been poured through. So, there was a fair wait for mine. Nevertheless, all credit to the barmaid, she did offer to pour them through. Many would have simply said that they weren't available.
Not as good as I'd have hoped. But probably an oasis for this part of Bracknell.
