An imposing pub and hotel on a busy corner with a feature brickwork stepped gable on the squint end. Inside the large area is effectively J-shaped but feels like separate areas. There is plenty of good quality looking wood panelling, lots of trophies here and there, not sure what for but I'd speculate rowing considering the name and close to the river location. The bar is central, the pumps had on Nobby's Claridge's Crystal, Cambridge Brew Co King's Parade, Milton Pegasus, Crafty APA, Brew House IPA and Grain Brewery Threeonesix (sic). Thankfully a board listed the beers, abv etc as there are bar stools all along where the pumps are, rendering visual checking impossible.
To the rear on e left a door leads out to a decked area which is provided with blankets for those of a chilly nature (pah!) then onto an outbuilding called The Potting Shed, available as a function room but a good overspill option even if lacking in comfort with rudimentary wobbly benches at long tables. There is a dart board in here.
We hit this place at a busy time early on a Friday tea time, it was a bit too busy to settle into but I think with that beer range and a bit more space this is probably quite a good pub in an area on the fringes of town.
Unfortunately the time of day/year and the very low sun made an updated photo impossible.

When i went in this pub it was called the Jolly Waterman so the pub is probably not as jolly now that it is just called the Waterman.
There were two rooms in here i went in a smartish lounge, this pub used to be a Tolly Cobbold tied house and there were four real ales on the bar i had a drink of Tolly Cobbold bitter and this was very nice the other beers were TC mild, TC Original and TC Old Strong.
This was a decent pub with a decent choice of beers.
