Standing alone amongst the modern office blocks on this part of Hills Road, this music orientated pub has a student vibe and is quite close to the station ,so useful on several fronts.
The open plan bar room has a wooden floor, bar straight ahead of the front door with a longer side to the left and seating in the bay windows.Down a few steps is a square back room with two large tables and a door to the rear garden where most punters were heading for on a wet Wednesday afternoon.
NHS T&T,order by text from a drink and food menu it felt secure. The ceiling is covered with gig posters, there are some good metal advertising plates and with a decent soundtrack there is a laid back vibe.
The menu offered Crouch Vale Brewers Gold,Moonshine Regenerator (NBSS 3) and Heavenly Matter. There is limited craft keg and bottles, some gins and food was burgers, jackets and sarnies.2021 GBG listed.
I like it and would include it on any real ale tour, useful for a first pint off the train but beware the 3pm opening weekdays.Live musicians from time to time but table booking then will come with a minimum spend threshold.

A very dark/dim interior on my winter evening visit. Various posters and bric-à-brac adorn everywhere. 6 real ales. A short walk from the train station.

I turned up here just after 14:00 on a Thursday afternoon to find it quiet. As mentioned below it's a fairly small wooden floored place with bric-a-brac everywhere. It is a bit on the scruffy side but that doesn't bother me at all. Live music is advertised. It looks to me like it's aimed at students rather than old wrecks.
The bar has six hand pumps with an extra one devoted to cider. On my visit one was unused and the five beers were Adnam's Lighthouse, Moonshine Hog Hopper & Cambridge Pale Ale, Crouch Vale Brewers Gold and Dark Star Hophead. I went for the Hog Hopper (£3.60) which was excellent and so good I managed to fit in another before getting the train back to London.
I thought this place was OK for an afternoon visit but I'm not sure I would take to it of an evening.
