Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Ferryboat Inn

The Ferry Boat Inn has a lovely location overlooking a creek where there is a regular foot ferry to Helford on the other side and where dozens of people were either engaging in watersports or clambering over rocks and strolling along the beach.

The interior is quite spacious and seemed primarily aimed at diners. However, there is a games room to the rear left with a pool table that was being played on our midweek visit. A patio to the front afford excellent views over the water.

3 cask ales were all from St Austell - Tribute, Proper Job and the house beer FB Ale. I enquired with the barman as to whether it was another one of their beers re-badged, but all he could tell me was that it similar to their Trelawny. I can't say I was particularly impressed by it.

The pub has accommodation and a swimming pool to the rear. It's car park is also to the rear up a steep hill. We had to park in the neighbouring public car park (pay and display) as the pub's parking was full.

I suspect the pub and the village were much busier than normal, as it was the annual regatta the following day. So, I suspect many people there on our visit had also come for the regatta. As such, the whole area felt overcrowded. On a cold winter's day, I suspect the pub takes on an altogether different feel.

I was slightly disappointed by the general feel here, with what should have been a traditional landmark Cornish creek pub seeming more like a seafront resort pub. The interior has clearly suffered from a disastrous rebuild in the past, with Spanish-style arches and a paved floor, while mismatched modern woodwork doesn't help. Perhaps it develops more atmosphere in the evening. There is a pool table in a gloomy area to the back. Outside is better, with many tables looking out over the muddy beach and moorings. The sampled St Austell beers were in good order though, with Tribute, HSD and Proper Job available. The menu is unsurprisingly heavy on seafood but was not tried.

Be warned that access is a bit of a struggle, with only a paid-for car park at the top of the (rather steep) hill, although it is possible to drop off at the pub or the lower (private) car park. The location is great and it clearly doesn't struggle for trade but it could be rather better.

On the waterfront at Helford Passage, next to the ferry for Helford. Fantastic setting. Good food, if a little pricy. Live music at week-ends. Only pub for miles with a stronger brew - the HSD was the best drink all week. Other real ales along with the usual stuff for those who believe the commercials. Visited with 5 mates, absolutely no complaints. Accommodation available, large car-park at rear of the pub. We'd visit again and again the place was that good.
