The review below nails it, the Botcherby estate is quite lucky to have this place. I found a real old fashioned community pub where everyone knows each other but is totally engaging and welcoming to an outsider. Classic multi roomed layout inside, beautifully restored bowling green at the back. A gem, the only downside being the lack of cask OBB, but there is still a decent selection of keg beer and cider on offer.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Magpie Inn

Fantastic Harry Redfern pub from the State Management Scheme days, with a rather striking rural Arts & Crafts exterior. The wood-panelled interior was restored in 2010 but to the untrained eye appears as if original, with the side Tea and Smoking Rooms in addition to the main bar (where the pool table can be found). It also retains its bowling green (now the last one in the area apparently). As a Sam Smith's house these days, the beer choice was predictable, and in the absence of cask OBB I went for the Light Mild (£2.20). Despite that, I really enjoyed my brief visit here, with the landlord and locals not only being aware of the pub's history (also explained in numerous old pictures and documents on display) but also happy to talk about it.
