Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Pear Tree
Solid-looking pub with a side extension and a covered outdoor seating area that was so warm in the spring sunshine that the large concertina doors from the pool room were fully open. Nothing much else of note in the refurbished interior, but it was a pleasant surprise to find five of the six handpumps in use. In addition to the Abbot and Old Speckled Hen, Infinity IPA from Blue Monkey and a pair from Welbeck Abbey - Red Feather (£3.50) and Cavendish - were being served.

Will Larter left this review about The Pear Tree
A Greene King pub at the roadside just before the market area, if approaching from Derby. A pleasant looking brick built house that is much wider than it is deep, with a long bar that is the first thing you see as you walk through the door. A decent range of GK beers, if that's not an oxymoron, augmented by Timothy Taylor Landlord and My Generation "session pale ale", with GK IPA, Abbot (doubled up) and two new beers (of which more later) on the seven hand pumps. I went for the Black IPA, even though it's a style I'm not keen on, just to see what GK had done with it, but the barrel expired as my half was being poured. This left me with a choice, either the remaining "new" beer, Old Spirited Hen, or the My Generation. I went for the Hen, but this was a strange beer tasting like Lakeland rum fudge, and pretty strong at 4.7%, so that I wished afterwards that I'd gone for the Pete Townshend instead. Nevertheless, it makes a pleasant change to have this much choice in a GK pub, so I'll keep this in mind for a future visit to Ripley.
