Long thin pub, one side is a restaurant and is labelled as such, the other is a locals pub. Three pulls, Doombore, Razorback and a lacklustre guest from a brewery obviously going no where and dreadfully tired. Ah well a pub reviewer can’t always get decent beer. Fair bit of RN memorabilia and that probably includes the punters. Decent boozer.

This old Portsmouth dockyard haunt is a single room town pub with a nautical feel to it, mostly used by ex-mariners and locals. Carpeted, heated by a single portable gas fire, a variety of seating including a rather unusual circular seat/table thing. Locals were pleasant (albeit loud), staff were friendly and helpful. The jukebox was emitting a variety of pleasant nostalgic sounds for the over 50s. It was slightly awkward negotiating the female guard force blocking the entrance, but once in there was plenty of space to sit or stand. Two ales on – I had a pint of Butcombe's which was past its best and a bit uninspiring. A decent enough pub, but not in Pompey's top ten.

Unlike many chain hotel / bars this seems to combine pub & hotel very well, no doubt because it is not a chain place. This is a grade 1 listed building so any "improvements" must be in keeping with the historic area

Ideally located for the Dockyard, Ferries etc, not sure about parking if you wanted to stay here. For a casual visitor there is no free parking in the area

On entering there is one long bar, with a dining room to the right, presumably used for hotel guests as well

The decor is clean & fairly traditional, and certainly not scruffy or "tired"

3 hand pulls on my visit, Doombar, London Pride + Old Speckled Hen, from this I assume not a tied house. I had Doombar, no complaints there

Food is available, set menu plus daily specials, for around £7 upwards, there are samples on the their web site, but the web site seems a bit duff, so you can't actually see what is on food offer, take it from me, it is varied and seemed reasonably priced

Would I go back, not really, but I live locally and Queen Street for me is jumping off point, not a destination. For visitors / tourists this would be fine, but there are many other nice pubs in the area, perhaps try them all?
