A friendly welcome awaits you at this roadside hostelry. The pub does seem to specialise in food, but the kitchen had closed for our late Sunday afternoon visit.

The house beer is Horse & Cart Best from the Romney Marsh Brewery. They also had a couple of guests from Old Dairy - Blue Top & Uber Brew.

Seating is in a patio area with heaters directly behind the pub. Beyond that is a pleasant grassy area, with no further tables that I could see.

Half of Uber Brew, a gin and tonic, a bowl of scratchings and a bowl of spicy rice crackers cost £9, which was not too unreasonable.

Staying just up the road, this was the first of the two pubs in Peasmarsh visited on a late August Sunday as the opening hours here were limited (closing at 6pm). A deep, L-shaped bar faces front left, serving an elongated L-shape room which extends towards the back of the pub to the right leading out to a garden patio. Bar seating either side of the entrance; we grabbed comfy armchairs around a narrow wooden table by the window and offered to have our drinks delivered to our table. Hop Fuzz American Pale Ale, Romney Marsh "Horse & Cart Best" (rebadged Best Bitter) and an un-remembered national made a three-pump line-up. I tried the former two, both of which were in good shape. We ended up having a nice chat with some locals and the staff were equally friendly and hospitable; although we pitched up at half-five, we weren't rushed to drink up and there was no issue in getting served a second round. It's neat and tidy inside and out and definitely worth a stop-off if in the area.

A smart refurbishment of this pub, which had been closed for some time, with an amusing pub sign depicting a dopy-looking horse sitting in the cart, which is obviously going nowhere. It seems like a lot of money has been spent doing the place up, with lovely new or recycled wood in abundance, and a light and airy feel to the interior. The garden has obviously had a professional touch, too, though I think it will improve with age. We arrived just after the afternoon cut off for food orders, when it was fairly quiet. There are three hand pumps with locally produced ales, which is good to see. I had Long Man Best and Three legs Pale, the latter being a bit too pale and insipid for my taste, but both beers were well kept. I'd be happy to include this on my cycling route if in the area again.
