Alan Winfield left this review about The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun is a fairly large and smart looking pub that is opposite a park and close Bristol Citys Aston Gate ground.
Once inside there is a long oblong shaped room which runs the width of the pub,the bar faces on entry, there is a pool table to the left and large TV which was showing the Norwich v Liverpool game.
The seating is normal tables and chairs, there is also a small raised area to the front right, there is a separate square shaped room to the rear right which is bare boarded, there is also a decent sized function room to the rear left.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Exmoor Ale which went down very well, the other beers were Bath Ales Gem and Otter Bitter.
This is a very smart and comfortable pub to have a drink in.

Blackthorn _ left this review about Bar BS3

Located directly opposite the park, this pub had a bit of a makeover a couple of years back when it transformed itself from the traditional Rising Sun in to the slightly trendier Bar BS3. Whether that actually improves it or not, is of course down to personal taste.

It’s an L-shaped pub with tables and chairs to the left and a raised area for bands and a small dance floor off to the right. There was a band on during our visit, and they seemed reasonable enough. They certainly appeared popular with the pub being quite packed . When the band stopped for a break, the disco filled in with some cheesy 80’s music – think Abba, The Nolans, etc.

There was a large projector screen showing a sports fixture, together with a plasma that seemed to be displaying a mix of advertisements and customer notices, e.g.; “This is a non-smoking pub”. Very useful.

The décor is quite modern, and the floor is a mixture of carpet, wood and tiles around the bar area. A display case showed off a number of trophies presumably won by pub sports teams and there is also a skittle alley/function room at the rear. Conversation was tricky due to the volume of the band. This being the heart of “Blackthorn country” I was amused to see one of the bar staff sporting a tee-shirt that read “Dry Blackthorn is back to the way it should be” (this being a reference to the campaign to get the original drier recipe reinstated).

Beers on tap were Butcombe and Courage Best. Ciders were Blackthorn (of course), Thatcher’s Gold and Taunton Traditional.
