Roger Button left this review about Crows Nest

Tucked away amid the docks and shipyards near the mainland end of the Walney Bridge, this end of terrace wedge shaped pub/hotel dating from 1888 probably has more of an affinity to the local dock workers than to the town’s regular pub goers or visitors to the nearby Dock Museum.

The interior is divided into 2 sections, the main bar to the left of the entrance and a second bar to the right that was shut and appeared to be in the process of being refurbished on my visit. The main bar is quite spacious and is itself divided into 2 with pool and darts areas on one side of the divide. The décor is a bit dated and grubby but not without a certain charm to people who like no nonsense boozers. There are long banquettes around the wedgy bit and some quite ornate chairs amongst the furnishings. A couple of large TV’s were showing daytime TV and there is a small stage area and an upright piano. To the left behind the bar is a second pool area behind a screen.

The beers were fairly mainstream for the area with Sharps Doom Bar as the only ale although I opted for a keg Theakstons Mild, cheap as chips at £1.70.

It is difficult to gauge the place as far as the customer base goes as I was virtually the only customer present but I have no reason to suspect that the place is problematic despite the openly industrial surroundings and it was certainly a more interesting place than a few of the other pubs around town.
