Bernard McGrath left this review about Kilpeck Inn

This is a late review for The Kilpeck Inn. The reason being that after our visit my wife wrote them a letter about our visit and we were giving them time to reply. We have not heard back?
Anyway here is our experience of an evening at the Kilpeck Inn (Wednesday 17th June 2010)
6 of us decided to visit for a meal and to see what the old Red Lion was like now. We booked a table for 7.00pm and arrived at 6.30.A Drink at the bar first. Well I must say they did a wonderful job on the renovations. It looks superb and very posh.
We sat down with our drinks and were given the menu. (It was an A4 piece of paper off the computer) not very impressive for such a lovely looking place. At 7.00 the waitress took our order which was 1 liver and bacon, 1 baked salmon, 1 ham and eggs and pineapple (we asked if we could substitute the pineapple for 2 eggs instead, no problem we were told), 2 Mushrooms Provencal and 1 rib eye steak.
We were told at 7.55 (nearly an hour later) that our meal was ready and were shown to our table. All the food arrived but the ham and eggs were missing 1 egg and had to go back for the lost one.
The Salmon was superb and the mushroom dish was quiet good. The liver and bacon was a little lacking in live bur tasted pretty good but the steak was the worst I have ever had. It was very tough and full of grisly it was more like stewing steak, so I sent it back. I was asked if I would preface something else but I was not prepared to wait another hour for something to eat and said no I did not want a replacement.
Next we had desert. On the menu was Raspberry roulade so 2 of us thought it looked good so ordered it (expecting a meringue and raspberry dish). We got a strawberry Swiss roll, not a raspberry in sight. We called the waitress over so she took them away and came back with the Raspberry Roulade, made with sponge instead of meringue but it was ok. Then we had 1 tea 4 coffees and one hot chocolate. The tea and coffee arrived but no hot chocolate. We had to reorder it and when it did arrive it was not very hot, more like tepid, the sugar would not even melt in it.
All in all not a very good night out for such a lovely looking place. But it was only opened about three weeks and maybe it will improve. I do hope so..
