As indicated by previous reviewers The Quayside remains a rather dull pub with little appeal, a great shame given its location. The main bar has been subdivided by false walls, which creates the image of separate dining or drinking areas but fails to reduce the noise made by the sort of shrieking morons who occupied the tables behind us when we visited. We learned the loudest male was called ‘Slinky’, presumably because people wanted to push him down the stairs. The pub was untidy and felt like a temporary storeroom, with piles of high chairs in the bar and grubby furniture. One ale on offer, Eagle IPA, which was as dull as the rest of the pub. Better offerings were Rosie’s Pig and Old Rosie, along with Shipyard and Portland Lager on keg, plus Wolfpack Pilsner. I shan’t be rushing back.

A rather bland featureless pub with a scuffed up boarded floor, light coloured lower wainscoted walls, mostly regular seating apart from a few of the high tables directly in front of the bar. Clear glass windows, TVs on with a strange thankfully muted swirly pattern thing going on. A few games on a butcher's block table were one of the few plusses, as was a framed signed Paul Gascoigne football shirt. Beers were Brakspear Bitter x2, Ringwood Boondoggle plus another Marstson's beer with a Help for Heroes clip which I went for on the basis a worthwhile cause may be credited. The highlight of the visit was an amusing peek-a boo game with another oblivious customer's German Shepherd pup who seemed to appreciate the attention.

Roger Button left this review about The Quayside

Known locally as the Fish Shop, the Quayside has never been the most enticing pub in town and my only previous visit didn’t leave me with any great impressions or desire to return thanks to its lack of any character, thundering music and rank beer. Never the less I thought I’d give the place a revisit after 5 years and found some slight improvement.

As the name implies, the pub is situated near the harbour but don’t expect any views of yachts bobbing up and down on the tide. Despite the large picture windows and side terrace, the only vista is of the main road and some industrial buildings.

The pub appears to have been extended at some point through what looks like a pair of old cottages and whatever character the place may once have possessed has been largely ripped out. All the original features have been sacrificed for a fairly open plan and nondescript interior with cream walls, bare floors, plain ceilings and little to grab any attention aside from a signed Gazza Italia 90 shirt and a few TVs.

The 3 Ales have at least improved a little since my previous trip with London Pride and a pair of Ringwood’s (Best and Boondoggle) the last of which (unlike my previous visit) was fairly decent and reasonably priced. I didn’t note any food on this occasion but I do recall an overpriced menu tthat was largely seafood from my previous visit

Thankfully the music was a bit toned down this time but overall it is still not worth sacrificing a better pub nearby (and there are plenty) to pay this one a visit.
