Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Spread Eagle

Large suburban pub on the south-eastern outskirts of Tunbridge Wells. Set back from the road a bit, the exterior is unremarkable but looks well maintained. This applies equally to the interior too, which has been mostly opened out to leave a variety of seating and dining spaces in an overall 'L' shape. Traditional furniture and decor that is smart without being overdone. Patio beer terrace to one side, and a small grassed beer garden on the other (which also has a lean-to shelter with a serving hatch which operates as a fish and chip shop for the passing trade). Assuming that this was their speciality, I sat down inside for some lightly battered plaice (one of five fish / portion options) and I have to say that it was very good. Three real ales on the counter, offering Pride, Hop Head and the inevitable (in these parts, but in good form) Harvey's. Well staffed, who were all friendly and efficient too, so it all made for an excellent first impression overall.

The Spread Eagle is in the village of Hawkenbury which is used by many, including myself, as a cut through to avoid driving through Tunbridge Wells. There is lots of parking that sandwiches the decked seating area to the left of the pub. On the right side of the pub is some sort of cabin that is used in the evenings as a take-away fish and chip shop. Food is also available inside the pub and the specials were made up of the usual pub fayre. A standard draught selection is available from the bar and the two banks of three hand pumps were drawing Harvey’s Best, Doom Bar and Pride.
This is a big pub with an extension that is used as a restaurant and a lounge area that doubles up as a function room. The pub was hosting a wake during my lunchtime visit on Monday, which I think is common place due to the proximity of Kent and Sussex Crematorium.
I didn’t spot any TVs and there was no background music playing, but I did spot an advertisement for the weekly Sunday quiz that kicks off at 20:30.

This isn’t the most exciting of pubs, but it is ideal for a quiet beer if in the area.
