What an imposing building this is. It’s not bad inside either with tiled flooring and lots of dark wood. It was quite busy in the bar on a Saturday afternoon, mostly with students and some families with kids. But the restaurant area on the left was empty. Down to two handpulls on the bar which I doubt were getting much use, Purity Mad Goose and IPA, the latter a drinkable low strength beer. It’s more of a student pub/eatery rather than proper pub, but not too bad for what it is.

Situated half way down Liverpool's iconic Penny Lane,The Dovey as it is now called is just a stones throw away from John Lennon's old Primary school, and apparently Freddie Mercury stayed here in the 60's while playing with the local group the Ibex.
An interesting and unusually shaaped building from the outside and continues in a similar mode on the the interior. The bar is straight ahead of you on entry with a few large wooded tables to the left and around 8 Chesterfield settees scattered about to the right, with a strange large raised area further right constructed of heavy dark wood that overlooks the bar and central area and would certainly not look out of place in a Church.Other features include an abundance of shiny white wall tiles, high ceilings and a large bright designated dining area around the corner to the left which has an high shelf around the perimeter of the room full of antiques,bric-a-brac and other miscellany.
There were 7 handpumps on the bar although not all of these were funtional, and a good selection of of draught foreign lagers plus a fine assortment of imported bottles.Tried a pint from the Ringwood Brewery which was a decent drink although slightly on the pricey side.
On reflection could not help thinking that the internal space could have been arranged a little different.Quite liked it in here and is worth a visit.
