Thuck Phat left this review about The Ancient Mariner (Best Western)

The Ancient Mariner is fantastically located with fabulous views from the rear of the beach at Old Hunstanton and over to The Wash. It is perfectly possible to walk straight from the beach to the pub without touching a road as we did.
The building is a lovely traditional Norfolk flint affair which is attached to the Le Strange Arms hotel next door. Both are run by Best Western and here is the downside as the dead corporate hand makes an appearance.
Inside the pub is vast and fairly featureless with lots of pine table and chairs. To the back though is both an attractive decked area and a garden with benches and a childrens playground all with that magnificent view.
The menu is a plastic laminated standard pub affair with the inclusion of crab, if available. It wasn't on our July visit. The food we had was ok but no more.
Regular beers are Adnams Southwold and Broadside and two guests, which were Wychwood Ginger Beard and Wadworths Farmers Glory on our visit, so don't expect any clever local ale sourcing. Both the Ginger Beard and Farmers Glory were well kept though.
Well worth a visit for the views alone and it's probably the best place in Hunstanton for a pint of ale too and on that basis just about deserves its 2011 GBG listing.
