First open pub on the Inn Way to North Yorkshire Moors. Most are closed on Monday Lunch times but the Royal Oak is open.

York Guzzler and Black Sheep on offer. Both in good condition. Nice traditional terraced pub overlooking the village green.

A stonebuilt, mid terraced seventeenth century pub in the centre of an unspoilt moorland village. The gentlemen of our party visited early on an October Saturday evening. Initially quiet, a couple of drinkers, and two ladies watching the telly in a little ante room to the right of the entrance lobby. The pub soon filled up: a large family group occupied the dining area, Italian style.
Yorkshire comfort:oak panelling, swirly carpet, fire in the grate.Signs of life beyond tourism, quiz nights, Curry evenings and darts leagues.
We didn’t eat here, but the barmaid was jolly and the ubiquitous Black Sheep was joined on handpump by Best Bitter and Golden Pippin from Copper Dragon of Skipton. These latter were on great form and highly moreish.
I’m not sure if this pub is dog friendly-it is in a great walking area. I’d happily use it as my local if I lived some 280 miles further north.
