A large, partially white washed pub on the corner of Reeth village green where the road going further up Swaledale and the road to Arkengarthdale split on a nasty crossroads. Multi space layout inside with a main bar furnished with settles and square tables. Up a few steps at the far left end is another seating/eating area. Halfway down the back wall is a corridor sloping up to the toilets and a more formal dining room / function room. The toilets are here and stairs up to the letting rooms as well as a side door. The main bar has a modern stone fireplace, plumbing style lighting, an interesting tiled floor and fake beams, but still retains a little dales atmosphere. Three hand pumps with a couple from Pennine and an average Theakstons Best, an horseshoe and solos provide a keg choice and seven ciders are shown as clips, presumably from boxes somewhere cold elsewhere. Luckily I was there before the tourist season so it wasn’t a bad experience.

Maybe because of the time of year, or week, or both, there were only two real ales available here on my recent visit on the first Monday of March: Timothy Taylor Landlord and Black Sheep Best Bitter. I went for the latter, having just come from drinking an excellent pint at the Kings Head in Gunnerside. Unfortunately, this one was not as good, being a little tired and without the vibrant flavours of this beer at its best; nevertheless it was still drinkable. I find not much to choose between the three Reeth pubs; at this time of year, the one with the best fire might tip it.

Our home for the night - perfect for ramblers - the room is equipped with a boot tray.
Best real ale bar of our entire trip in the Dales. They had five different ones on - I started with an excellent Landlord and I never thought I would say this, but the Copper Dragon just about tipped it.
Food was very good too - and the staff were wonderful.
