I cycled out from Alnwick, arriving just after 10am and not expecting the pub to be open, but a couple were drinking coffee on a table in the front garden, so I walked in. I asked for a coffee and was asked if I would like a glass of water too, which was a very welcome offer. The woman, who I took to be the owner, helped me with the door, as it was quite a heavy one while carrying two drinks. The coffee was pretty good, but the welcome and service were memorable. The pub's website says that opening time is 11:30, but I wasn't going to hang around for a beer, though the two beers looked tempting, from local Rigg & Furrow and Hadrian Border Brewery.

Good pub in a pretty village, which had been noted for food but as the landlord was retiring later in the week this was not available and changes may be made. An old exterior but a slightly modernised interior with the restaurant area to one side. Ales on were Hadrian Farne Island and Northumbrian Gold, in good order.

Lovely looking country inn, situated just off the main road through Rennington.

Entrance in Covid times is through the restaurant area to the left-hand side of the building. Exit is from the bar on the right-hand side (as you look from the front).

We were greeted by the landlord who advised us that there were no available tables, unless we wanted to sit outside. We didn't, as it was a little chilly. Ironically, he was standing next to 2 vacant tables, with others in the dining area also about to leave. Whilst the bar was supposedly full, there were certainly spare seats in the dining room, which he eventually allowed us to sit in begrudgingly. Strangely enough, locals arrived shortly after and were seated in the bar without any trouble.

The 2 ales are both from Hadrian Border - Farne Island Pale Ale & Tyneside Blonde.

A pub with much potential. But it's a shame they don't offer a warmer welcome to visitors.
