Alex Conway left this review about The Longbow

The Longbow is an ugly looking probably 60’s estate pub on the side of the road in the back end of Arnold away from the high street and the shoppers. There are two distinct areas, one long bar room to the right as you that runs parallel to the road and another long oblong shaped room that is face on. This is more of a lounge with more tables and chairs for diners (that is if they still do food, they did 15 years ago) and their used to be a small indoor children’s play area. On my visit the lounge area was packed with people doing some sort of exercise class that was rather bizarre but I suppose pub shave to explore different revenue streams. We went into the bar area to the right which has its own long bar. The decor is still pretty 1960 and is rather old looking and a bit warn and there are tables and chairs running along the opposite side from the bar. I wasn’t expecting much from this place and up until that point it was pretty much as I had imagined. Very surprisingly there was a lone hand pull on the bar and even more shocking was it dispensing local ale, Home Ales little John Proper Ale at and keenly priced at £2.90. It was a little hazy and not on top top form but was pleasant and drinkable and wasn’t half bad. It shows that even estate pubs like this that haven’t sold real ale for decades are coming round because it is the only thing that will attract people really into their beer. Overall the pub was empty in the bar and very average all round but with a local beer that from what the landlord said is always changing and sourced locally I would pop in if on a crawl around Arnold pubs but this is no somewhere to make q special journey too it simply gets a possible re visit because of the ale alone.
