Arnold is in the middle of a fabulous mass regeneration of its pubs that started with the Robin hood and Little John that went on to win the regional pub of the year the next year. From then every other has spent in abundance to up their game and compete with the Robin Hood and it has worked a treat. Arnold now has an abundance of good pubs which is still on the rise with the Greyhound and Cross keys both spending hundreds of thousands of pounds over the next few weeks on their own rejuvenation. Sadly the Friar tuck is now straggling behind and unless something changes I can see it falling behind. It has never been a good pub, especially being one of those horrific orange painted Flaming frill outlets. Upon entry there is a large bent u shaped room based around a centrally located bar. All tables are set out in a diner style with menus but are multipurpose and there for everyone weather eating or not. The decor is the standard chain generic spoonsy type with not character. Sports are also spread across the many screens with most showing football. There were two hand pulls on the bar bombardier and an unusual find of Camerons Thirsty blood American Red Rye Ale. I obviously went for the latter at £2.95 which I found more expensive than I had predicted seeing as they sell the cooking lager very cheap. After a few sips I regretted my decision as it was a very badly kept beer, because of its style I thought it might be the rye but it got worse and worse. Next round I sampled the Bombardier and found it equally woefully kept so had a Theakston mild for £2.49. This is a typical flaming grill crap pub that does not warrant a visit aside from the hearty portions of cheap meals available. Calling for a drink I would not recommend. Hopefully the competition will make it get its act together.

The Friar Tuck is a large suburban pub a short walk from the town centre it used to be a Home Ales tied house.
It is now a one roomed pub that does a lot of food trade there are a couple of handpumps on the bar which were Timothy Taylor landlord which was adecent drink the other beer was Greene King IPA which i did'nt try,the pub is quite comfortable inside.
