An Oxfordshire village pub of some character, being all low oak beamed ceilings, stone walls and open fireplaces as well described below.
You enter into the main low ceilinged bare floored bar area and open functioning fireplace which had a real fire on the go for our visit and then the rest of the pub stretches to the right beyond the second non-functioning fireplace, and for our Sunday lunchtime visit this multi partitioned area was completely set for dining as the Sunday roasts are very popular here and was the primary reason for our visit.
Three Waddington’s beers were available in the shape of IPA, 6X and Horizon and then a hand-written pump clip announced Black Sheep Bitter as a guest on the fourth pump.
Very friendly service levels experienced in both the bar and the restaurant and the Sunday roasts were very good, totally justifying their current ratings on trip advisor.
The pub also benefits from a large garden area to the front which I can imagine will be a good spot for a pint in summer because although it fronts onto the road Roke is a fairly quiet out the way village.

A Waddies pub in country surrounds outside Wallingford, heaving with drinkers and diners on a Tuesday evening. Roughly split into two areas, a bar area to the left, counter against the far wall, offering 6X, IPA, Horizon and Dirty Rucker (the latter £4 and on point). Bare floorboard with a brick fireplace sub-dividing the area further into two and hand-crafted walking sticks for sale to the bar's right(?). Dining to the right. Very cosy interior, with low beams, exposed stone walls and limited bric-a-brac. Clientele a mixture of country types mixed with the well-heeled and a variety of age ranges. Old school guvnor called me "Sir" an endless amount of time, including acknowledging my presence whilst he was finishing off another order: seemingly a dying art these days. Worthy of a drop-in if you're considering visiting the pubs in this area and if you can stomach Waddy brews.
