We drove somewhat off the beaten track to reach the Royal Hill. As such, we were surprised to find it really busy with both drinkers and diners.

The pub is situated overlooking the River Severn and makes the most of its location with several good vantage points including an outdoor patio at the front of the pub and further seating areas on the opposite side of the lane.

Inside, there is a large dining room at one end of the building, with multiple small rooms at the other end. These include a tiny public bar with bench seating for 3 (fairly thin) people and another room with a pool table.

Three Tuns XXX is a regular beer here. Guests were Wye Valley Bitty Bach & Salopian Shropshire Gold. These days, with a campground and caravan park to the rear, the Royal Hill seems like a good commercial venture and appears to be doing a roaring trade. But at the same time, it has not lost some of its more traditional features. I certainly wouldn't mind returning here at some point to give the food a try.

This is a fantastic place for a special meal. The food is all homecooked, nice big portions and the puddings are yummy! My favourite meal is the vegetable lasagne followed by sticky toffee pudding. The prices are very good and my partner and I rate this pub as the best in Shropshire. Also the staff are very helpful and friendly. If you want a night out that you will remember for all the right reasons, this is the place for you.
