The Jolly Sailors is a gastro pub run by Moss and Co Ltd who own at least three other pubs in the general vicinity. Located next to Pakefield Beach there are a few picnic tables out the front that were bustling during a recent midweek lunchtime visit. The bright and area wooden interior houses a small bar in the right rear corner and plenty of high table and stools. To the right of the bar area is a separate restaurant which opens at 10am for breakfast during the summer. I was not massively impressed with the food and found the lunchtime menu to be very expensive, £8 for a prawn baguette with Iceberg lettuce (which was substituted for green leaves without word). I was also very disappointed with the sticky pickle in the cheese and pickle baguette. I’m a huge fan of pickle, but I had to scrape it out. In hindsight we should have opted for the roast with all the trimmings which looked great and was only £3 more expensive. The bar is stocked with premium keg products alongside Carlsberg and four hand pump that were drawing Adnams Ghost Ship and three guest ales. I found the service from the young staff members to be very polite.
There are no televisions for showing sport or other distractions you might find in a traditional pub, but there was some background music. Live music was advertised for Sundays and some Fridays. There is also a monthly quiz.
This pub is in a nice spot so I would relish the chance to return for some alfresco drinking, but I’ll be steering clear of the lunchtime menu.
