Riverside dining pub. Interior has been knocked through and significantly extended in a ‘farmhouse from John Lewis’ style. All very light, airy and middle class. There are a number of sections but ultimately it doesn't hold much intrinsic charm, though the slab paving by the bar was nice. Five pumps with two on, Hogsback TEA and an apply-tasting London Pride, bleurgh. It isn't somewhere you'd stop just for a drink based on what I saw, but I guess it depends on whether the latest fly-by-night manager is any good in the cellar or not. 4.5

The Kingfisher pub will appeal to the 'older' patron, it is a traditional pub with a nice long bar, that you rarely have to wait long at. :o) They've had a change of management and a 'shake-up' since the biblical floods early in 2014 !! The food menu has changed (my friends say its not as good as before, but that is only one opinion. Last night the food I saw looked well presented & smelt good - lamb chop on bed of mash potato, with parsley &gravy, quite yummy-looking!) and the wine list has had a revamp, introducing new wines like 2x New Zealand sauvignon blancs, which is a good addition to the wine cellar. For a Friday night, it was quite busy at 8.00pm and most of the restaurant tables were full. There was still room in the 'bar area' for casual snacking & drinking, which is good when you turn up on speck! Which is why I like the Kingfisher, you can most usually find a table, or seating sufficient for your group. The Kingfisher CAN cope, where other pubs cannot cater for more than 4 people in a group. I did notice the majority of the staff now are quite young, compared with a year ago. That is not a bad thing, so long as they are trained well, keen, and know a little about 'customer service'...and the staff I saw were just that (8/10 for the new staff)! Well done Kingfisher!

Large purpose-built Vintage Inn eating house in the typical 'farmhouse' style, with lots of brickwork and distressed wood. A reasonably cosy feel and layout has been achieved however, although why do the toilets always have to be half a mile away upstairs? A nice bank of handpumps dispenses good quality if slightly uninventive beers - Doombar, London Pride, Speckled Hen, 6X and one I've forgotten; Cask Marque registered. Ouside tables look across to river and lock.
