An old pub which transforms from a reasonable town pub at lunchtime to a 'nitespot' in the evenings at weekends. The front room is fairly conventional, with a much larger room behind the island bar and an outdoor area at the back. There is a bit of nice tiling surviving but most of the pub has been modernised. There is a private room upstairs, also an actual cloakroom, presumably for the weekend entertainments. It did provide me with a decent pint of Norfolk Wherry and some old-fashioned pub grub however.

The Earl of Chatham is a proper looking pub that it situated in the middle of Woolwich.
Once inside i had a drink in the front room which had the bar facing on entry, the room is L shaped and extend to the rear left and this area is quite narrow, the seating is mainly normal table sand chairs.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Doom Bar which was a decent enough drink,i failed to note the other beer.
The pub was empty on my Saturday dinner visit.

A large sightly rambling high street pub, originally known as The Earl of Chatham. It consists of two large bar areas joined by a wide hall to one side, almost making it a U-shaped bar. The front bar is more publike than the rear one, which is more open and airy. There are a selection of gaming machines and tv screens to entertain those who want them. The jukebox was tolerable on this occasion, delivering a rare hearing of Black Sabbath. The floor is vinyl, the décor uninspiring. The toilets are reached by ascending a narrow wooden staircase and passing an old-fashioned cloak room counter. The selection of bar food looks pretty decent, and they run regular entertainment including poker nights. There were two ales on, Doombar and London Pride, both in very good condition, served by friendly bar staff, although paying became something of a chore. Not a bad pub at all, by Woolwich standards, and a cut above the nearby JDW.
