Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Barns

Smart bar / restaurant / function room / hotel complex in a mix of converted and new linked buildings. It has two separate bars, but the three handpumps can be found on the dining side, with Black Sheep and Old Golden Hen (£3.60) available when I visited. Perhaps a slightly unusual facility to find in a former mining village, but it was doing good business on a Wednesday evening.

Update: Visited again last night and it is much as it was - only a with a better choice of beer (still three pulls). I wanted to add that I have eaten here a few times between these reviews and the food has been very nice. This one is definitely worth a visit, especially if eating.

March 2010: A large farm house and its out buildings, including the stable, which have been converted into a hotel, restaurant, conference centre and pub. All in unrendered brick, with a patio.

The pub part has two rooms. The bar is more traditional, in wood panel with the old stable pews forming a feature. The lounge, where i went, is a little more modern and is in white, grey, red and brick, with Sky TV, comfy chairs and old photos of the farm house. There was also bar footy and darts. A mix of styles that should hopefully please all. The service was fine, the clientele more mature and it was busy.

Beer; tap stuff, with Everard's Tiger, Pedigree and a decent Timothy Taylor Landlord on handpull.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The pub part stands on its own two feet - not swallowed up by the rest of the Barns. I would happily go back and maybe eat next time.

A modern conversion in the former mining village of Huntington, this is tastfully done in modern style. The two rooms are complimented by an upstairs restaurant.

The area used to be a little run down but this conversion of former stables is a welcome addition following the closure of the adjoining pit. There is a nice walk from the pub up the former slag heap, which is worth doing in summer and not half as bad as it sounds!

The emphasis is on food, but the bar is comfortable and nice to go just for a drink and the beer range has expanded slightly over the last few years and there are now 4-5 real ales. The Chase Ale is Brew 11 in disguise.

The pub venue has expanded recently, as has the area with a lot of houses being built on the former colliery site.

I have got a bit of a soft spot for this one as it is one of my former locals.
