Basic workaday L-shaped shop conversion Spoons slowly entering into a state of disrepair, if our table was anything to go by. Two guest ales; my Old Dairy Blue Top was in surprisingly good shape (NBSS 3.5) and they also had the proper glasses for the Leffe, my upmarket swansong purchase. Most memorable part of the visit was accidentally getting caught-up in a fishwives slanging match in the rear garden; “YOU SHOULD EAT A F***ING RICE CAKE DARLIN!” and “YOU’RE ALL F***IN’ TEETH, YOU ARE!” were well-worth the price of a cheap pint to witness, pure poetry. Port Talbot is a gritty place and I suspect that none of the other pubs are likely to better this one. 5.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Lord Caradoc (Lloyds No 1)

Although it doesn't stand out in the streetscape, this is a substantial 'spoons in the converted shop style. Usual mix of furniture, but the generally light decor helps offset the low ceiling in the main bar area. Further back, a higher and lighter extension leads to a rear patio. Reasonable selection of real ales and festival ciders from the two banks of six handpumps, with the Dewi Sant from Neath Ales (£1.99) being the pick of the bunch.

Lord Caradoc was a Welsh Warlord from around a thousand years ago but for all I know one of his descendants could have been present amongst the daytime brigade that made up the majority of the customer base on my Tuesday afternoon visit.
It's small for a Spoons, open plan with the bar on the left and a raised area on the right. There is a paved patio at the rear. There are two banks of six hand pumps here which is quite impressive for a small Spoons. Both had the two GK beers then there was Doom Bore, Marston's Old Empire, Gower Gold, Tomos Watkin's OSB & Pecker Wrecker, Celt Experience Castell Coch, Evan Evans Warrior and Rhymney Export available soon. I wished I had followed one of the golden rules and gone for the Castell Coch which the majority of the locals seemed to be on. Instead I went for the Gower Gold which was cold and hazy but not a total disaster. The best thing was the price £1.79 and the friendly lady behind the bar assured me that it would have been £1.59 the day before on Cheapskate Monday.
I quite liked this Spoons and I rather doubt there is anything better in Port Talbot, it's very much a drinker's one rather than a cheap restaurant and is GBG 2015 listed.
