I think the main thing that hits you on a visit here, is the large open plan roof void, situated in the central part of the pub. You could most probably tell that I was a visitor, as I stood looking up at the roof, instead of concentrating on the poor range of beer choice across the two banks of six handpumps. Another feature was the Victorian fireplace and walnut panelling in the right hand lounge area. Hopdaemon Brewery Green Daemon was about the best choice.

As I approached this place I could have sworn it was a cinema or theatre conversion both for the name and the appearance but apparently that's not so. Inside it's a high ceilinged room for a Spoons which also made the incumbents voices reverberate around the place. There is a slightly raised area to the left of the bar and a seating area behind it leading to the rear patio.
Considering there are twelve hand pumps here the beer choice was rubbish with each set of six hand pumps mirroring the other. The doubled up beers were the JDW Trio Of Doom, one available soon, the JDW / Everard's Defender and Westerham Summer Perle.
I spotted that the keg Banks's Devil's Backbone was on special offer at £2.49 (only 10p more than the standard guest ale) so I went for that. It was cold and a bit gassy but despite that at least it had some flavour. I thought this had the potential to be a good Spoons but on my visit I found it to be poor.

Formerly a Coop supermarket, the Leading Light is not a nautical reference - surprising given Faversham's nautical associations - but a reference to Henry Wreight, a "leading light" in the town's 19th Century commercial and philanthropic life. The single large bar is irregular in shape and there is a decent sized patio to the rear. The staff here are unusually efficient and pleasant, even though the pub is very busy, but as is often the case with JDWs, the food lets it down - poorly cooked chips and a tasteless burger, in this case. There were 8 ales on - I had a pint of Whitstable Brewery's Wreight Ale, brewed especially for this pub - it was an excellent light, refreshing drink, very light for a 4.3abv beer. Overall, it's the best JDW I've been to in a long while, a rare one that actually deserves its GBG entry, and is worth returning to and including on a crawl.
