Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Vigilance (JD Wetherspoon)

Named after the last sailing trawler built locally, this standard shop-conversion 'spoons - with the usual dark interior - doesn't initially seem to offer much. But with the full-height front windows open on a warm spring day the place was pleasant enough for a quick drink. Seeing Dartmoor Jail Ale alongside Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot on the first bank of four handpumps didn't promise too much but finding four more interesting beers including Crispy Pig from Hunter's on the other set exceeded my expectations, especially as they were all just £1.99.

The Vigilance is an old school shop conversion. It's smaller than usual and the single open plan room gets darker as you move away from the front windows. The fixtures and fittings are fairly typical. It wasn't overly busy on my Saturday morning visit.
There are only eight hand pumps here but the choice was better than many I've been to with ten or even twelve, namely the JDW Trio Of Doom, Dartmoor IPA & Jail Ale, Marston's Shipyard Summer Ale, Bays Crocodale and Dorset Brewing Durdle Door. I went for the Shipyard Summer Ale (£2.49) which was in good nick.
Despite the dull building I thought this was a decent Spoons.

This Wetherspoons opened in 1998 and is named after the last fishing trawler to be built in Brixham in 1926, the trawler of the same name has been restored and is now on display in Brixham harbour. The pubs frontage on the ground floor is more than half glass as this provides the only natural light, despite this the pub is quite dark. The interior is small by JDW standards and is one roughly square open plan room with a couple of supporting pillars dotted around, the dark wood bar counter forms a small arc in the back right corner, in the left wall towards the front of the room is a nice cast iron coal fire with dark wood surround and mantle piece, there are also some booths down the left hand side of the room and dark red fabric bench seating along the right side with high tables and chairs in the middle of the room, there is a brown patterned carpet and local historic facts, photos and Victorian prints on the walls.

Regular ales are Greene King Abbot Ale and Ruddles with up to four guest beers which on this occasion were Branscombe Vale Draymans Best Bitter, Dorset Durdle Door, Dartmoor Jail Ale and Red Rock Devon Coast IPA (Cask Marque). I tried the Draymans and the Durdle Door and both were excellent in my opinion, in fact my drinking companion thought that the Durdle Door was one of the best pints that he had tried in ages. It was nice to note that all four guests were reasonably local, one being from a neighbouring county.

A good Wetherspoons that doesn’t feel like a glorified canteen which I think some of the larger branches are. Seems that a bit of care has been taken when choosing the guest beers which is good to see and the quality was very good, although this is the only occasion that I have visited this particular Spoons. On this experience I would pop in for a couple again if in the area.
