A typical pre-war pub on a housing estate to the south of Chesterfield's centre. The original layout of separate rooms has been opened out, and decorated in an aggressive colour scheme of black, white and grey, including the carpet and stone-patterned wallpaper. There is no real ale, and I went for a lager I had not heard of before: Madri Excepcional. Of course in the six months since this first sighting it has become ubiquitous. There didn't seem to be anything exceptional about it, just a slightly sweet and undemanding lager, but there's no resisting expensive marketing operations.
