Brighouse's branch of Wetherspoon's certainly has an impressive interior. Well preserved pews at an upper level still preside over the drinking area below. You cannot access the upper balcony, to the best of my knowledge.

Otherwise, this is a typical open-plan branch of the chain. Most tables were taken on my Thursday evening visit. Indeed, I'd contemplated having a meal on their curry night here. But I'd have been lucky to have found a table. I contented myself with a stool next to a shelf on which to rest my pint. Whilst still inside, I was next to the outdoor seating area which can be found to the side of the pub.

The usual 'spoon's ale selection was on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests were almost all from Ossett - White Rat, Voodoo, Excelcius, Butterley & Yorkshire Blonde. The sole exception was Marston's Old Empire, whilst the cider was Weston's Old Rosie.

Interesting 'spoons housed in an imposing former chapel, with pews in a lozenge-shaped gallery above the main seating / dining area, chandeliers and an impressive set of organ pipes. Also has further seating in a smaller rear room and outside on the terrace. In addition to the usual trio, had Elland Nettle Thrasher (£2.10) and other real ales from Moorhouse's, Ossett, Phoenix, Goose Eye and Lees from the two banks of six handpumps. Definitely one of the best from this chain I been to recently.

Old Boots left this review about The Richard Oastler (JD Wetherspoon)

Small spoons in an old chapel, the counter is at the far end with two banks of pulls with the good and usuals spread about, interspersed with the T-Bars of National kegs. Under some sort of renovation or repair when I visited, the mezzanine floor was inaccessible due to scaffolding. The old organ still exists above the servery. Downstairs toilets and there’s a beer garden at the rear.
