Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Fingerpost

Extended old pub beside the Wyrley & Essington Canal, although it was too dark when I was there to see whether there was a rear beer garden beside the waterway (although there is a narrow decking terrace). The main dining area branches off perpendicularly from the bar which lies parallel to the road, as does another small lounge. Refurbished in a restrained way, and with low background music and a little chatter from the other couple of customers present, the atmosphere might best be described as 'restful' (or worryingly quiet). On the real ale front, London Pride, Boltmaker (£3.70) and Tribute were available from the three handpumps.

Very quiet on my afternoon visit. Only 1 other customer in. I had to fetch the barman from the kitchen to get served. It looks like they do alright for meals but not really a pub for drinkers. There was a Doombar tap alongside the John Smiths tap. Never thought I would be disappointed that Doombar was off ! I had a lager which was .... lager! Not a pub I would rush back to.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Fingerpost

A detached self-styled pub and eatery, in cream render with a middle front facing gable, perched on the canal and road bridge at Pelsall. Formerly the Royal Oak, it has a patio area

The interior is open plan, almost F-shaped and is set more for the food than drinkers, i think. The serving bar is to the right when you enter from the car park way and there is a small drinking area with comfy seats and pouffes along with a TV, which was showing BBC4. It is modern decor; so coffee, chocolate wood panel, purples, red and black alternating walls along with the bistro art on the walls. I didn't eat here so i can't comment on that. The service was friendly, as was the dog that tried to finish my drink. The clientele seem like a couple of blokes drinking and no diners really - the music was general and at a nice level.

The beer; usual tap stuff, with a couple of real ale handpulls. I did't note what they were at my last visit, but i know i had a decent Hobgoblin there on a previous visit.

Not really a place i would visit just to drink, but I would come to try the food, as i know i would get a decent pint.
