Real Ale Ray left this review about The Midland Pub

A decent traditional pub that's well worth a visit for its historical interest and some very well kept ales. This is pub was built in 1833 and has now reverted back to a freehouse. I especially liked the original Art Nouveau hand made glazed tiles and mosaic flooring around main entrance. I went for the Bradfield Farmers Blonde, a firm favourite of mine, and in superb condition. Marvellous news to hear, that this traditional pub has been saved!

Apparently this pub was in danger of being bulldozed for a road traffic scheme, but that threat has now passed and it looks like the current publican is doing a very good job in making it worth a visit when crawling down the Wellington Road. Some nice period tiling and four out of the five handpumps in operation with the beers as described by the reviewer below. I got the impression the beers are looked after here as my Farmers Blonde was spot on as well.
I also thought this was a good pub which would grace many a town centre and it’s just unfortunate (for it) that it’s on the same street as the Magnet and the Hope Inn.

Bucking Fastard left this review about The Midland

An interior containing many original features ,the mosaic tiled entrance with glazed tiling leads to arches adorned with wood carvings leading to the tap room on the left and a front lounge to the right.Further along the corridor is the jug and bottle window, not used these days. The L shaped bar has 5 handpumps which were drawing Bradfields Farmers Blonde,Bootleg Speakeasy,Marstons Saddle Tank and a decent Oakham Inferno. There is a darts board to the front and a corridor leads around the rear of the building back to the lounge. The pub wasn't busy and the presence of a number of PuG crawlers happily chatting away did cause confusion with some regulars who forgot that this was a public house and not their private club. However they regained their poise after a brief exchange of views and the visit ended amicably once they offered to put some tunes on the juke box.
Anywhere else other than Stockport this would be a pub that deserves a visit on a real ale crawl ,but against red hot competition locally it would fail to make the cut for a revisit from me.
