No change here, just as it should be. Surprised to see more than one dark cask beer on. We went for Exmoor Oatmeal Stout (NBSS 3), Exeter Prince of Darkness (3) and the house beer (2.5). Also cider though I forgot to note what. It’s a bit of an institution and should be towards the top of your list when you do the city. GBG’22 listed. Time your visit for the quieter hours as it is well and truly on the tourist trail as a tick box. 8.5

A CAMRA National Inventory pub and perhaps the most well-known of Bath’s plethora of above-average pubs. This is a lovely three-roomed hostelry (lounge, lobby and smoke room), with oak panelling on the walls which date back to the 1920s. Its small size means that it does get crowded quickly, so it’s worth timing your visit to avoid peak hours. Six ales from local microbreweries usually feature and they are often in in excellent condition, including Old Green Tree bitter, which is brewed for them by Blindmans Brewery as well as a dark ale. There’s also a real cider, with Broadoak being available on my last visit. The range of whisky is also pretty tidy. Handled jugs are offered as standard. Décor includes framed banknotes and lots of pictures of Second World War aircraft. A real retreat and should be an automatic choice on a crawl of this historic city. Rated 9

Well described by others and nicely summed up by Moby, below.  A cracking little pub indeed.  The barman was chatty and engaging, and there was a bunch of elderly Irish tourists who were genuinely enjoying the ales and the ambience.  Misspelled sandwich boards outside advertised over-priced pub grub, but that could be forgiven given today’s market forces.  Ales on were Stonehenge’s Great Bustard, Butcombe Original, Pitchfork Golden Ale and their own Old Green Ale which is brewed by Linesman Brewery in nearby Frome.  In addition there were 4 boxed ciders from Lilley’s, a draft cider from Rosie’s Pig, 5 Belgian beers and two wheat beers on offer.   A well-deserved GBG entry and definitely worth a visit.

A wonderful small three room oak panelled pub very well described below, plenty of character and characters on my visit, beers were the house Old Green Tree, Butcombe Bitter,RCH Pitchfork, Thurstons Flint Knapper and Hanlons Port Stout plus a couple of Ciders, Ashton Press and Honeys Midford Cider. A cracking little pub.
