More traditionally pubby than the other establishments in Settle despite the carpet and slight food emphasis. Roughly square with a central servery, the front is mainly seating for eating, at least during food hours, to the back left are darts and pool, toilets and car park to the right. It's also dog and family friendly. Six pulls of good local beers, Settle, Dark Horse, Kirkby Lonsdale, Wishbone, Roosters and Theakstons all having a place in the well balanced if a little weak (3.6-4.2) range. Fizzy tastes are catered for on two low T-bars of national standards plus cider and Lagunitas IPA on solos. A small blackboard lists crafts, I suspect some child portion bottles/cans and a real cider in a box from the description. Real cider and excellent customer service seem to be standard in Settle as I found them everywhere I went. Only criticism is I didn’t find any sit down facilities for gentlemen.

Visited most recently around midday on a weekday at the beginning of December. I have been before and found it as good as ever. Half a dozen or so ales were on including two by Settle Brewery (Main Line Bitter and Attermire Session IPA). When weather permits, the beer garden to the rear makes for a pleasant area to sit and enjoy your pint. Inside can fill up pretty quickly especially at lunch time. A must visit when in Settle.

Will Larter left this review about The Talbot Arms

The modern refurbishment of this large old stone built hotel in the back streets of Settle has been done with restraint and taste. The old beams and the grand old stone fireplace still feel part of the place, despite the opening out of the ground floor (originally at least three rooms) into one large one. The modern bar features a row of six hand pumps, probably the optimum number for a place like this, with what appeared to me to be an enticing and well balanced menu of real ales: Goose Eye Poulter's Pride, York Guzzler, Leeds Gathering Storm, Naylor's Pinnacle Bitter, Theakston Best and Nine Standards Silver Standard. All fairly local and all bar one from Yorkshire, Nine Standards Brewery being situated in Kirkby Stephen in the former county of Westmorland. I had a half each of the Silver Standard and the Pinnacle, followed by the Poulter's Pride, my only regret being that I had to walk to Malham and therefore didn't also try the Gathering Storm too. The service was welcoming, friendly and efficient and there was a pleasant atmosphere, with a small crowd of lunchtime diners and a few solitary drinkers like me, either reading the paper or writing their notes for Pubs Galore. Will defo, as Ray would say, call again.
