A Victorian town pub in need of TLC, and something of a memorial to Aldershot’s military past. The single bar has been formed by a badly-done knock-through which has necessitated the installation of iron columns to reinforce the load-bearing members. While the small garden remains at the back as a smoking area, many regulars prefer to smoke in the front door, meaning the smoke blows back into the bar. There is a pool table, and the décor consists of an industrial strength carpet on the floor and a large, and quite interesting, collection of historical artefacts – or, if you prefer, gizzits - liberated from various places where the Parachute Regiment’s battalions served while they were based in Aldershot; why these items, which tell an interesting and very human story, didn’t go to Colchester with the PARAs when they moved is a mystery.

The barmaid was just about friendly, the locals were a bit cliquey. Only one handpump on the bar, which was dispensing Pigs Might Fly. Sadly, the beer was off, and the only acceptable replacement was a bottle of Newcastle Brown. Worth a look in for the interest but not the beer.

The Trafalgar Inn is a medium sized corner pub, despite the naval references in the name and on the pub sign,The Trafalgar is billed as the last military pub in Aldershot. Once inside we find that this is very much an army pub as you might expect in this town, all the walls are covered with photos of regiments from over the years particularly the Paras along with other memorabilia and more less formal pictures of army personnel(presumably customers past and present) in action and at leisure. There was a couple of flatscreen's on the walls, one was on with a music channel specializing in 80's hits, the volume was at a reasonable level The Pub itself once a two possibly three bar set up now opened up into three areas surrounding the bar itself on three sides. The majority of the flooring is in simple Lino and there is various seating in two of the areas and in the the third resides a pool table which was covered over on my mid-week late afternoon visit. Drinks wise there are two Hand pumps of which only one was in use, dispensing
the rather hackneyed Doom Bar, there were also four or five different but usual suspect Lagers to choose from along with some fizzy Cider. As a pub I quite liked this place and felt quite comfortable here, but given the unadventurous beer selection I am not likely to re-visit in the near future.
