Alan Hurdle left this review about The Sale Hotel

I have seen this pub go through many changes in the past 40 years. In the 1970's it was part of Watneys "Fork and Cask" group with several different themes - the "inside Out" street scene, the "Fanny by Gaslight" Victorian room and the "Gilded Cage" with a real tree poking through the ceiling! In the 80's there the downstairs cellar bar. Later they tried to turn it into a restaurant pub and then came the "Rustic" look with several different decking levels. This fine old landmark has a tower on the end ot the building and was known as "Fawlty Towers" in the CB Radio era. It was a sad day when it closed as a pub and an even worse one when it was nearly demolished as it was such a part of Sale's history as part of the Botanical Gardens as previously mentioned by 'Maldon man'. It has now just reopened after a long closure with a new name "The Moorfield" as the area was once known as. It as now a Greene King "Hungry Horse" pub. Another new identity, I wish it luck and hope it continues as a pub for years to come. I give it 9 for effort!

Malden man left this review about The Sale Hotel

An imposing building built in 1878 as part of the long gone Sale Botanical Gardens. This former local of mine is now sadly closed but thankfully has been saved from demolition by a vigorous local campaign backed by The Victorian Society. The local authority have now issued a Preservation Order on the building. Whether it will ever come back as a pub is however in doubt.
