Strongers . left this review about The Angel
Unmistakably a music venue, at the front of the wooden floored Angel are tightly packed red banquettes that sit under orange lighting, and three electric guitars that have been chained to the ceiling. Some steps climb rearwards to the bar area where more red banquettes, although these are high ones, sit to the left faced by the serving counter found up the right-hand wall. Again, there is an orange hue from the lights above, except at the very rear where a pool table sits. There’s rock and punk music wallpaper throughout and in the left rear corner is a DJ booth, regular live music is advertised. I thought the service was polite, but only one of the two hand pumps was in use, and this was drawing Old Rosie, so no cask ale. Standard and premium keg was also available alongside four Camden Brewery options, which I think is the most I’ve seen out of London. I didn’t think the lighting and furniture matched the punk rock scene, but I’m not a huge music fan so what do I know. Although, if I find myself up this way again I’ll be sticking with the GrAle and Old Elm.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Angel
The Angel appears to be one of Durham's main venues for rock music fans. The interior is very basic, with a small front bar with vert little seating at street level and a further area with a pool table and slightly more seating up a few stairs.
There are no real ales here. But I quite enjoyed my half of Jellyfish Nebula from Tooth & Claw. I'd read that there was also real cider. But I couldn't actually spot any.

Old Boots left this review about The Angel
Old looking from the outside but funkily decorated inside with mirrors, snaps, cartoon strips, fairy lights and a music poster collage. Split level, quite steeply, up to a front and rear counter. No real ales just a fairly full collection of national kegs plus bottles and cans, I had a tin of Punk IPA. Benefits from a big screen, jukebox, machines, a patio and a pool table. I could wrong but I think it might be a student pub.
