Ten ales and one cider on handpump on our visit, four of which were from Ashover Brewery, situated at the back of the pub. The interior was slightly bigger than I expected, with a large room on the right of entrance, with a good sized room near the bar, plus an area at the back..
The pub was busy on our Thurs afternoon visit, mostly people dining. We managed to get a small table opposite the bar, which was handy for perusing the beer board and watching large plates of food flying past, even the starters looked huge. I went for the Mobberley Brewhouse Elysium IPA and Ashover Font.
Sunday Night is curry night, which is very popular and dishes are cooked individually.

A multi-award winning pub, with more hand pumps than can be counted (probably 12), including three of their own Ashover brewery beers. Beer- or cider-tapas is offered for a standard price of £3.10 for three thirds, though the on-site beers all come in at well under £3 a pint. The blackboard by the bar was being updated while I was here, but I reckon there were eight guest beers from many different parts of the country.

Hops dominate the decor, hanging from every beam where they fight for space with past pump clips. There's the old Red Lion inn sign hanging near the bar, and a few photos on the walls show the gradual transformation of the original stone-built village inn to today's much larger establishment in Brewers Tudor. An interesting newspaper cutting from 1944 details a sting by the local police which resulted in the landlord being fined £20 plus costs for serving after time - at 10:20pm!

I enjoyed my beer tapas and regretted that the need to remain sober enough to ride my bike back to Chesterfield meant that this was a short visit. Will be back for a longer session.
