How could I resist a pub called Belted Will? Anyway, it was on my cycle route from Carlisle to the hostel called the Sill at Once Brewed, though the shortening of daylight hours and the busy roads coming out of Carlisle decided me on the advisability of letting the train take the strain as far as Brampton. The pub's outward appearance has been spoiled a little by the addition of a couple of bench tables with roofs - one called hardly call them shelters, knowing the weather in these parts and noting the absence of walls! It was quite busy mid-Sunday afternoon, though no one was sitting outside. This is a really nice village local with a good atmosphere. The bar counter has a rail for your elbow and hooks for your jacket or bag, and three hand pumps, though only Wainwright on. I did notice that no one seemed to be drinking this, but the publican pulled some through before serving me and it was in good condition. There was a real fire, and entertainment in the form of live sports on TV, a juke box, darts and a pool table. According to WhatPub the name derives from a local bigwig who wore a broad belt, though whether this was to restrain his beer belly or to carry his money bags is not mentioned.
