A popular pub on a prime corner spot on the popular Gloucester Road strip, it was pretty much full to capacity on a recent Friday evening visit and we just managed to squeeze on to a small table in the corner. There is apparently a beer garden at the rear which is something of a rarity in these parts, although we did not investigate this.

It’s basically a U-shape pub with a couple of extra rooms tagged on to the ends. There are some large windows along the front which makes a good place for people watching on Gloucester Road and to make the most of this there was a row of bar stools in the window as well as a beer barrel to rest your pint on. Being a corner plot, there are also a few more windows along one side. The floor is a mixture of quarry tiles, mottled flagstone tiles and wood strip. Décor wise it’s all fairly neutral with pale coffee brown paint on the lower part of the walls and cream above. A stencil type drawing of the various cuts of meat on a cow was on the end wall, along with a cleaver and beer barrel. The menu concentrated on burgers with a dozen or so different options available. If burgers aren’t your thing, the choice was somewhat limited.

Beers on tap were Tribute, Doom Bar, Purity Mad Goose and, of course, Hobgoblin. Ciders were Orchard Thieves which seems to be cropping up more often in these parts, plus both Gold and Haze from Thatcher’s.

The Hobgoblin is a decent looking pub from the outside.
Once inside there is a single L shaped room with the bar to the front right, the room is set on different levels,so to get from one area tot eh left you go down steps and then up some steps to get to the rear left area, the seating is a mix of tall tables and chairs and normal tables and chairs.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bath Ales Jem which went down very well, the other beers were St Austell Tribute,Hobgoblin and Doom Bar.
There was some decent background music playing and breakfasts were being served.
The pub was quite busy on my Saturday dinner visit.
I quite liked this pub.

Has been closed when passing in the day so wasn't sure if just opening in evening. Just driven past it tonight and windows now boarded up.
