A slightly odd looking pub, it appears to be the sort of establishment you might expect to find in the middle of a rundown 1970’s housing estate, so it’s location directly opposite the impressive architecture of St. Mary Redcliffe church seems a little out of place.
Inside too, the appearance is a little odd with it’s suspended tiled ceiling that would be more at home in an office than a pub and it generally feels more like a private members club of some sort rather than your regular pub. Internally it’s a sideways U-shape with a front and rear bar area. The front area was full to capacity on a recent Thursday evening visit due to a ladies darts match in progress, so we decamped to the rear where there are a couple of pool tables and a darts board as well as a good selection of trophies. A plasma screen was showing a music channel. Décor wise there is little of any note with red carpet on the floor and deep red velvet curtains at the windows. Some unusual art deco style lights on the rear wall were unusual. Food doesn’t seem to feature prominently here, although a sign outside did say that breakfast was served from 7:30, presumably to cater for local office workers. A glass cabinet tacked on to the end of the bar housed a selection of cling film wrapped slices of cake.
Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just keg Courage Best. Ciders fared somewhat better with Thatcher’s Gold and Blackthorn, although a third pump for Thatcher’s Heritage was apparently “off”.

The Colosseum looks like and estate type pub.
The pub was open well before 11am so it had to be done.
Once inside the pub has two separate rooms, the front room is oblong shaped, the seating is normal tables and chairs and the room is carpeted, there is a separate pool room to the rear and a covered verander to the right.
No real ales on the bars so i had a drink of Courage Best which which i dont have a problem in drinking.
Breakfasts were being served,so very handy if you want a pint and breakfast before 11am.

An intriguing little place that looks more like some sort of café than a pub. Built in the 1960’s after the wholesale demolition of the surrounding area, the exterior divides opinion but I think it has a rather quirky quality and perhaps could be an intriguing prospect. However the interior is a pretty battered and dated. A token real ale (Doom Bar, I think) which I passed on in favour of a coffee. There’s a lounge area to the rear and a tacked-on plastic conservatory to the side. I took coffee on the front beer garden overlooking the road and giving a sideways view of St Mary Redcliffe church which was a bit more pleasant than being inside. Not one I’d be heading back to now I’ve satisfied my curiosity.
