Recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment, it’s quite unrecognisable internally from it’s previous very dated appearance, although outside it has retained it’s original look including the classic yellow lettering of the pub’s name, with the only apparent difference being the addition of some very dark red cladding around the lower half of the building.

Internally it’s been opened out in to one, open plan room, although there are still some parts of the original wall forming a divide between the front and rear. In many ways it’s been stripped back to basics, with some areas of exposed brickwork, concrete lintels and so on. Paintwork on the ceiling and remaining parts of the walls was a similar deep maroon colour to the outside, whilst fitted bench seating with blue upholstery was around much of the perimeter. The floor was very pale wood strip, that had rather curiously been marked out with red and white tape, giving it the appearance of a gymnasium. Other than that, it was a little bereft of any characters with no pictures or other knick knacks around.

No real ales on tap unfortunately, although keg options included Arbour ZZ Hop, Harbour Arctic Sky and Mena Dhu. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Haze, and their own Colosseum cider, the latter of which went down surprisingly well.

The Colosseum looks like and estate type pub.
The pub was open well before 11am so it had to be done.
Once inside the pub has two separate rooms, the front room is oblong shaped, the seating is normal tables and chairs and the room is carpeted, there is a separate pool room to the rear and a covered verander to the right.
No real ales on the bars so i had a drink of Courage Best which which i dont have a problem in drinking.
Breakfasts were being served,so very handy if you want a pint and breakfast before 11am.

An intriguing little place that looks more like some sort of café than a pub. Built in the 1960’s after the wholesale demolition of the surrounding area, the exterior divides opinion but I think it has a rather quirky quality and perhaps could be an intriguing prospect. However the interior is a pretty battered and dated. A token real ale (Doom Bar, I think) which I passed on in favour of a coffee. There’s a lounge area to the rear and a tacked-on plastic conservatory to the side. I took coffee on the front beer garden overlooking the road and giving a sideways view of St Mary Redcliffe church which was a bit more pleasant than being inside. Not one I’d be heading back to now I’ve satisfied my curiosity.
