A typically modern and vaguely sterile Nicholson's outlet as one might expect in this part of town. There is some "pubbiness" however with a raised section in a corner which runs back a bit as well as some framed historical prints of the former Billinsgate fish market and the life of the eponymous former PM Henry Addington. The single room is long, slightly curved and narrow with seating all along the row of windows facing the water outside, outdoor tables mirror those inside. The flooring has polished boards and part of the walls inside are clad in dark stained planks. There are twelve handpumps in here, in two equal banks. My Saturday afternoon visit had eight in operation offering Wainwright x2, Black Sheep Milk Stout plus Monty Python Very Silly IPA, Nicholson's Pale Ale, Sharp's Sunset Red and Fire Bird Two Horses. There is the usual Nicholson food menu in operation.
My visit was fairly chilled and relaxed being a Saturday afternoon, I wouldn't venture near in the week.

As with just about every bar around Canary Wharf, this is a shiny, modern open-plan affair that is pretty much interchangeable with any number of other venues in the immediate area. The pub has a long but comparatively shallow interior with a wide seating area to the left, an L-shaped servery in the centre with high tables and stools opposite and a darker, deeper seating area to the left, including a split level space to the rear with some formal tables and chairs. On a warm day such as the one when I visited, most customers had opted to sit outside, where they could enjoy a view of the Middle Dock and the busy building sites on the other side of it. Inside, things were a bit flat, with some music quietly playing and a few other customers spread out around the place – I suspect this is in sharp contrast to a typical post-work visit, but I’m unlikely to ever try and put that theory to the test. Decor is minimal but includes a few old photos that are worth a quick look.
The one thing that sets this place apart from other bars in the area is the presence of real ale and there were five or six pumps in operation dispensing a few Nicholson’s standards and some more interesting guests. I ordered a half of some pale, hoppy beer but the barman then presented me with a full pint, claiming to not have heard me properly. Given that it was a very hot day, I figured I could cope with a pint anyway, so saved him from wasting it and I was pleased to find it was in pretty good shape.
I struggle to see what the attraction is for this kind of vapid, soulless bar, but they seem to be immensely popular in this part of town, so I can’t really question why so little effort has been made to make this place stand out from the crowd. The ales are the main attraction and should I find myself in the area again, I would most likely head back here for that reason alone.

The Docklands Nicholson, the bar is modern and loud, situated among other bars and eateries catering for Canary Wharf's City crowds, but managing to be better than most. Mostly laid to table, the floorspace divided by various wooden balustrades, but with some room for vertical drinking, and there is some outside seating overlooking the old dock. The young staff were hard-working and friendly, and the food was good. Four ales on, I had a pint of Rev James which was in very good condition. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself here.
