A multi-room whitewashed pub in the delightful village of Linton. Always popular with tourists and presumably also with people who live locally, as it always seems to be pretty busy - I've even seen people drinking coffee at one of the outside tables at 11am. I've been coming here off and on for over 20 years, I suppose, but I can't remember if I've ever sat inside before. There's a sort of snug to the right on entering which is made up of tall-backed settles, attached to the ceiling joists with iron brackets, presumably to prevent them tipping over under the pressure of over-exuberant sitting. There are five hand pumps with Tetleys Bitter, ex-Thwaites Wainwright, John Smiths Cask and a house beer.

Stunning pub in a beautiful location.

In a week of 26 pubs - this was the cheapest round - with the thwaites coming in at £2.85. Most other places were £3.40.

Stunning old building.

General Staal left this review about Fountaine Inn

Another lovely old Yorkshire pub. It overlooks a small green and a small stream. The stream was actually a raging torrent on my visit after all the rain up on the hills.

The bar is on the left as you enter and their is a small 'box room', literally, on your right. This is made of shoulder height wooden partitions. There is an interesting game in this little room which involves swinging a metal ring on a string up to a hook. The aim is obviously to 'hook' the ring. However, the ring swung back and hit the lady playing the game in the face, chipping her tooth...

There are tables at the bar area and a 'restaurant' area past the box room on the right.

The decor is traditional, olde worlde inn.

Alewise, there was Tetley Cask, Thwaites Bitter, Black Sheep Bitter and 'Fountaine Ale'. I tried the Thwaites and Fountaine, both of which were lovely.

Mrs Staal and I ate some delicious sandwiches in here. The cooked food that kept coming out looked delicious.

Another pub I would heartily recommend.
