Clive Thompson left this review about The Black Horse

This is a small, by comparison, city pub that has had a few names and guises over the years. It's now a traditional publayout with piped music and a single large TV screen showing Sky Sports. Three pumps but only one is on and the quality is not great - I suppose it's difficult this time of year. Signs to more upstairs seating and a terrace. Better than it has been. The most interesting thing about this pub is the keg toilets in the gents.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Black Horse

The Black Horse is a corner pub that is now painted in the modern battle ship grey colour.
Once inside there is a smallish oblong shaped room with the bar facing, unusually all seating was tall tables and chairs, there was a TV to the left which was showing tennis on mute, decent background music was playing.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Windsor & Eton Knights of the Garter which went down well, the other beers were GK IPA and Old Speckled Hen.
This seemed a decent enough pub, shame there was no lower seating, i think there may be an upstairs room that i did'nt look at which is hopefully more comfortable than the lower one.

Rex Rattus left this review about The Zeppelin Shelter

I thought it might be worth dropping in here to see what it's like since it's changed from being the Zeppelin Shelter to a proper pub name of The Black Horse. I suppose it must be a Greene King house (although I saw no signage to confirm that) as it had on Old Speckled Hen, GKIPA, and a GK porter called 1799 (£1.90 a half). There was no sign of any food when I was in there on Tuesday evening. It's a small one-room affair downstairs, with the only furnishings being tall tables/tall stools, with a few stools at the bar of course. My impression of this pub is of thumping pop music, and flashing Christmas lights in the window. As I sat by the window I got two of my senses assaulted, but as it was nice and warm in there my other three were unscathed. There's a dartboard in here, and a sign on the bar gantry pointed to an upstairs room with a pool table, but I didn't investigate.

At least I could get to the bar in here to buy a drink, unlike the far superior but jam-packed Still & Star round the corner. It's possibly better than when it was the Zeppelin Shelter (although I can't be sure of that as I didn't visit it), but as the Black Horse I didn't rate it highly. But anywhere with thumping music isn't going to get my vote.
