Lively and popular with tourists and locals alike, some of whom were accompanied by their canine friends. One of these was having a nervous breakdown, and his barking was going right through me. I'm not sure that dogs and pubs really mix, but at least the remainder of those in here at the time of my visit were quiet enough - probably bored out of their skulls.
There were nine hand pumps on the bar, of which two had ciders and six were for ales at the time of my visit. Wainwright was doubled up, and the other ex-Thwaites beer Lancaster Bomber was also available, as was their own Nutty Black. The two guests were local Dark Horse Hetton Pale and Settle Main Line Bitter. I went for both the Nutty Black and the Main Line, and both were in superb condition and well poured too. And good value for a tourist location at £3.50/pint.
Once the psychotic dog had left, I was happy to stay for another round. Easily the pick of the two Malham pubs, with friendly and efficient service, an interesting, attractive and comfortable building and a good atmosphere; would have scored a 9 if dogs were barred. (Grrrr.)

Four real ales on tap, I had a good pint of Wainwright's here after a walk late one afternoon in November.
Service was good ,beer delivered to my table by a friendly young bar person.
I think considering that Malham is only a small village, too have two very nice pubs is a bonus.
I would certainly visit again if in the area ,even if I am a
Joe Daytripper.

This is a personal viewpoint of this pub. Some years ago it was a very good, no it wasn't, it was an excellent 'Free House'. Catering to the walkers, climbers & potholers, superb beers & food were the order of the day. What is it now - a Thwaites gastro-pub catering for Joe Daytripper & especially his wife. Forget it. When I entered my disappointment may not have been palpable but it was definitely audible. The attitude of the bar staff left a lot to be desired. Reason for one star - the chairs are comfortable.
